RNC Chair On Romney Birth Certificate Remark: Can’t We Have ‘Levity’ In Politics?
Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus paid Candy Crowley a visit on CNN’s State of the Union, during which he responded to the frenzy surrounding Mitt Romney‘s recent remark about no one ever having asked him about his birth certificate.
“Well, you know what, I think it is a nothing,” Priebus told Crowley, adding that Romney has been consistent in saying that the president was born in this country. “This is a non-starter, Barack Obama was born in Hawaii.”
Crowley followed up, asking, why even bring it up? He was simply making a point about being from Michigan, Priebus said. Then noting the immediate outrage.
“And you know what, have we really gotten to the point where we can’t have any levity at all in politics?” he asked. “I mean, we have gotten to a place in politics that is ridiculous, and no one can say anything that is remotely humorous. And, you know, the president makes jokes about this all of the time.”
