Roland Martin To Debut Morning News Show On TV One, Focusing On African American Issues
TV One announced Tuesday afternoon that it was developing a new morning show to be hosted by former CNN personality Roland Martin.
News One Now is slated to be an hour long morning news show covering stories important to the African American community, and providing news analysis from the African American perspective.
The show will debut in September.
“African Americans are some of the most highly engaged cable news consumers, and it’s vital that we meet that thirst with a daily morning show that speaks to our issues, our concerns, from our perspective,” said Martin in statement. “News One Now will launch as the pre-eminent destination for the pulse of Black America.”
Martin, a former CNN contributor and current host of TV One’s Sunday show Washington Watch, will also serve as managing editor.
The show will be augmented by a three-hour radio version and an online iteration. “Studies show that African Americans have a high usage of social media,” according to the station’s press release, and the show plans on incorporating large amounts of social media with the hashtag #NewsOneNow.
