Ron Burgundy Joins The 24-Hour News Cycle In Anchorman 2 Trailer: ‘Welcome To The 80’s, Baby’
This is Anchorman 2.
In the first real trailer, after a string of hilarious teasers, for the long-awaited sequel to 2004’s Anchorman, Will Ferrell‘s Ron Burgundy has officially entered the world of cable news. After seeing a glimpse of the “Global News Network” building, a mysterious man tells Burgundy, “We’re starting a 24-hour news channel, and we want you.”
After Burgundy’s date says to him, “Welcome to the 80’s, baby,” in a later scene, we can be fairly certain that the movie will chronicle the San Diego news team’s transition from local to national, offering a rare, comedic look at the rise of cable news.
We also get our first look at a permed Kristen Wiig, who appears to playing a love interest for Steve Carell‘s lamp-loving Brick as well as James Marsden as Burgundy’s younger, better-looking rival.
The trailer ends with Burgundy apparently facing racial diversity for the first time, a subject that wasn’t broached in the first movie and looks as though it could make things very awkward for him.
