Ron Paul Calls Secret Service Protection ‘A Form Of Welfare’

Republican hopeful Ron Paul stopped by the The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Tuesday night and spoke out against Secret Service protection. “It’s a form of welfare, having tax payers pay to take care of somebody,” Paul explained. “I’m an ordinary citizen and I would think I should pay for my own protection.”

Never known as one to compromise his rigid principles, Paul explained further why he opposed the government-funded security detail.

“It costs, I think, more than $50,000 a day to protect these individuals,” Paul continued.

Leno was astonished by the cost of the program.

“Is that what it is?!” Leno exclaimed incredulously.

“Yeah! That’s a lot of money!” Paul added.
