Ruth Marcus: Ted Cruz Is Like Obama, Except He Doesn’t Think ‘He’s Going to Be President’

The Washington Post columnist Ruth Marcus joined MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell on Monday where she said that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) nascent campaign for the presidency bares some resemblance to that of President Barack Obama‘s. However, unlike Obama, Marcus said that Cruz does not really believe he will be elected to the presidency.

Mitchell noted that Cruz was in New Hampshire over the weekend and would not deny that he was considering a run for the White House. “This is clearly someone who thinks he can run for president,” Mitchell observed. “It’s sort of the Obama plan.”

“There are some interesting similarities with President Obama in terms of the, sort of, aggressiveness of his moving,” Marcus agreed. “But I think that he doesn’t necessarily think that he is going to be president, but I think he’s very clear that he can effect the terms of debate.”
