CNN’s S.E. Cupp today bemoaned the “disgusting” way people seem to keep getting assaulted at Donald Trump events and other people seem to make excuses for it.
During a discussion on the man who assaulted a protester at a Trump rally, former Jeb Bush campaign official Tim Miller brought up the alleged assault of Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields by Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski.
Trump supporter Andy Dean called that a lie, and when Miller said that’s the “culture in the Trump outfit,” Dean called the allegations “outlandish and downright defamation.”
Cupp didn’t address that particular issue, but said it’s “so disappointing” that they’re arguing about the violence that takes place at Trump events. She said it’s “disgusting” and “embarrassing” and Trump clearly “encourages this.”
It’s worth noting here that this may have been the first mention of the Fields/Lewandowski incident on cable news since it happened. Miller mentioned it minutes after Mediaite ran a column on cable news’ eerie silence on the matter, and Brooke Baldwin seemed like she wanted to really, really avoid talking about it.
