S.E. Cupp: ‘Preposterous’ for Obama to Say He Didn’t Think About Golfing Optics
President Obama admitted yesterday he didn’t consider the optics of golfing after speaking on James Foley‘s beheading. CNN host S.E. Cupp found this somewhat laughable, and said on CNN today that Obama can admit it was a mistake all he wants, but for him to say that he never considers the optics of his actions is “preposterous.”
Van Jones defended Obama against the optics, saying that in the reality of the situation, the president has been taking decisive action and is “engaging the enemy.” He also made the point that Obama has taken less vacation days at this point in his presidency than George W. Bush had.
But Cupp didn’t really care about that metric, she was just struck by how Obama suddenly professed an ignorance of political optics.
“To whitewash and rewrite history and pretend to the American people and Chuck Todd that he is not good at anticipating the optics of politics is preposterous. Mr. President, have you met you? This is a president who was largely elected not because of any experience he had, but because he was uncannily good at the optics of politics.
