MSNBC contributor Sam Stein had fun Wednesday morning with the robocall made by fake Jewish reporter “Bernie Bernstein [from] the Washington Post” that supposedly went around Alabama asking women to make false allegations against GOP Senate candadite Roy Moore.
“‘I’m Bernie Bernstein I just left school, I’m calling about a story.’ I mean, come on — was [the caller] Jewy McJewster? ‘I got a little stain from my Matzah ball soup,'” said Stein, in-between fits of laughter from the Morning Joe crew.
“It’s ridiculous, it is so antisemitic. So antisemitic!” he continued.
Joe Scarborough, who spent most of the bit cracking-up from laughter at Stein’s impression, said, “It’s so obvious, so hamfisted.”
“I’m getting verklempt over here!” exclaimed Stein — further derailing the segment with chuckles.
The robocall was first reported by an Alabama news station after a local pastor claimed he had received the robocall. “Hi, this is Bernie Bernstein, I’m a reporter for the Washington Post calling to find out if anyone at this address is a female between the ages of 54 to 57 years old willing to make damaging remarks about candidate Roy Moore for a reward of between $5000 and $7000 dollars,” said the made-up reporter — as there is no Bernie Bernstein at the Washington Post.
The caller continues by perfectly fitting the pro-Moore — and anti-media — narrative, saying, “We will not be fully investigating these claims, however, we will make a written report.”
During his Morning Joe appearance today, Stein also pointed out that Moore supporters appear to be fine with child molestation allegations yet they are “forcefully opposed” to gay marriage.
