Samantha Bee Will Launch Her Own Daily Show-Esque Program on TBS

When Samantha Bee tweeted the message below to her followers on Thursday, many people on Twitter started to speculate that an announcement might be forthcoming that she would be taking over Jon Stewart‘s role as host of The Daily Show:

But instead, it turns out she is following her husband, fellow correspondent Jason Jones, to TBS, where she will be creating a new show in she can “apply her smart and satirical point of view to current and relevant issues,” according to a press release.

Previously, Jones announced he was leaving The Daily Show to star in a sitcom that would be co-written with Bee. But it appears that Bee’s new show is something different, more along the lines of a topical late night program.

“We’re thrilled to have Sam join Jason at TBS and really make this a family affair. We actually have their kids coming in next week to pitch us animation,” Brett Weitz, executive vice president of original programming for TBS, said jokingly in a statement. “Like her fans around the country, we absolutely adore everything about Sam, from her straight-faced sarcasm and ruthless wit to her uncanny ability to mine comedy gold from just about any awkward situation. After watching Sam’s work for years, we knew that her distinctive humor and talent belong at the front of her own show.”
