Sarah Palin And Megyn Kelly Take On 2008 Debates And ‘Media Bias’ In Anticipation Of Tonight’s Debate
On the afternoon of the 2012 vice presidential debate, former Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin — who debated current Vice President Joe Biden back in 2008 — talked to Fox News about her experiences and insight into Biden’s debate tactics. She also assessed whether the controversial AP photo of Mitt Romney bending over in front of young girls constitutes “media bias,” concluding wholeheartedly that it does.
Palin noted that during the 2008 Democratic primaries, Biden was a strong critic of Barack Obama‘s until receiving the vice presidential nomination, after which he “flip-flopped” into believing the presidential candidate was the “smartest man in the room.” She told host Megyn Kelly that she hopes Republican VP candidate Paul Ryan “coaxes” those flip-flips out of the vice president tonight, because “it’s very important for the electorate to understand how politicians can change their minds, their policies, their principles, their foundational substance so quickly according to politics, not principle.”
The former Alaska Governor then went on to praise Biden’s debate experience, saying that it’s unlikely anything will “gin up a nervousness” in him because of his long career in politics. “I think [he feels] like, ‘You know, it’s another day,'” she joked.
“I think who’s nervous tonight is Barack Obama because he certainly wants to see the debate shift in terms of attention being deflected from his poor performance, his arrogance, his aloofness, his disconnection that he really exuded in his own debate performance last week. And he wants to see the public start talking about something else,” the former governor continued. “And they will talk about something else, and that’s the debate results after tonight.”
Kelly then asked Palin about the controversial AP photograph depicting Romney in an unflattering pose with some young girls. The host compared it to a 2008 AP photo that depicted Palin’s bare legs with young boys looking up at her in awe. “Do you think that this is media bias, or is it, you know, a forgivable mistake?” Kelly asked.
Ever the critic of what she calls the “lamestream media,” Palin said, “Hell yeah, it’s media bias. And it’s also some sexism when you consider what the response to Mitt Romney’s photo is which is degrading.” She continued on to call the Associated Press “jerks” for trying to “taint people’s view of Romney by running this photo.”
