Sarah Palin Open To Leaving GOP And Starting Third Party With Mark Levin
During a Fox News appearance, Sarah Palin suggested she’s tempted to leave the GOP if it continues to ignore the voices of the more conservative Republicans. In response to a viewer question about her teaming up with radio host Mark Levin to start a “Freedom Party,” Palin said she liked the name and would certainly consider something along those lines, with a more libertarian strain to it.
Palin warned the Republican party that a lot of people aren’t happy with the apparently more moderate turn the party is taking, offering them this warning if they stray too far from the conservative path.
“If the GOP continues to back away from the planks in our platform, from the principles that built this party of Lincoln and of Reagan, then yeah, more and more of us are gonna start saying, ‘You know, what’s wrong with being an independent?’ Kind of, with that libertarian streak much of us have. In other words, we want government to back off and not infringe upon our rights. I think there will be a lot of us who start saying, ‘GOP, if you abandon us, what–we have nowhere else to go except to become more independent and not enlisted in one or the other of the private majority parties that rule in our nation.”
