Sarah Sanders Bashes ‘Massive Media Hysteria’ Over Critics Linking Russian Spy Maria Butina to Trump
Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders bashed the media on Wednesday over their hysteria from the flurry of Russia news and President Donald Trump controversies over the last few days.
As she defended Trump over the Vladimir Putin summit and his conduct in Europe, Sanders was asked about Maria Butina — the Russian national who was recently charged as an unregistered foreign agent who allegedly tried to infiltrate American political organizations.
Sanders was annoyed with this question, and she accused the media of trying to connect Butina with Trump in order to damage the president.
The press secretary made her point by citing Emily Singer‘s errant tweet claiming Butina was once with Trump in the Oval Office.
“I know there was massive media hysteria yesterday over confusion between that individual and a White House staffer which I think shows, frankly, the outrageousness and the desire to find the negative in everything that this president does. Just because somebody was simply red-headed, they were accused of being some sort of spy for Russia. I think that this has gotten totally out of control. You guys need to take a little bit of a step back, slow down and quit going after the trump Administration on every single thing.”
