Sarah Sanders Dismisses Schumer’s Criticism of Trump’s Negotiating Skills: What POTUS Did ‘Clearly Worked’
Over the weekend, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer took some pointed shots at President Donald Trump. With the federal government shuttered after the Senate was unable to pass a short-term spending bill, Schumer dinged the president’s deal-making skills, stating negotiating with Trump was like “negotiating with Jello.”
Following the announcement that the Senate had reached a deal to fund the government for three weeks, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders declared that despite accusations that the president sat on the sidelines, POTUS’s strategy obviously succeeded.
At today’s press briefing, CBS News’ Steven Portnoy asked Sanders to respond to Schumer’s criticism as well as if Trump made a “concerted effort” not to reach out to the Democratic leader.
“What the president did clearly worked,” the press secretary stated. “The vote just came in 81-18. Those numbers are much more in the president’s favor than in Senator Schumer’s favor.”
She added that it is unclear what changed for Schumer while noting that she wasn’t sure what “positive things” came out of the weekend for Democrats.
