Sarah Sanders Dodges Questions on Sexual Misconduct Allegations: ‘Is The President Failing to Lead?’

During today’s White House press briefing, Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was grilled by MSNBC’s Hallie Jackson and Kristin Welker on President Donald Trump’s role in the national conversation on sexual harassment and whether he is credible to lead on that topic.

And Sanders dodged the question entirely.

Asked by Jackson if she could speak towards any specific steps the White House has made to ensure a comfortable environment for women working there, Sanders said that she has “never felt anything but treated with the highest level of respect and been in power to do my job.” Jackson followed up by asking if the administration was holding any seminars for its staff, the press secretary merely stated that there are White House policies that they’re reminded of.

This led to Welker pushing Sanders on the topic of the day — Democratic Sen. Al Franken’s resignation following sexual misconduct allegations and how that compares with the Republican Party supporting embattled Alabama GOP Senate nominee Roy Moore.

“We have seen Democrats forcibly call for Al Franken’s resignation, which happened today,” Welker noted. “Do Republicans — and does this president — risk losing their moral authority on this issue, which is a huge issue right now, by endorsing a candidate like Roy Moore, which has now been backed by the RNC as well?”

Sanders responded that the question had been addressed in-depth already and she thinks the “allegations are troubling and this is something the people of Alabama should decide.”

With that, Sanders tried to move on to another reporter as Welker shouted out why the White House wasn’t calling on Moore to drop out of the race. Sanders continued to ignore Welker as the MSNBC reporter exclaimed: “Is the president failing to lead?”

“Thank you, Kristin. I’m going to move on,” Sanders replied.
