Sarah Sanders Grilled Over Trump Ad Attacking ‘Complicit’ Dems: How Will He ‘Show Leadership?’
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders faced an onslaught of questions today about that new Trump campaign ad that depicts Democrats as complicit with murderous illegal immigrants. This ad came out in response to the Democrat’s part in the gridlock that caused a government shutdown over this past weekend.
Since indications suggest that the government will soon reopen, Sanders delivered a statement from President Trump, saying “We’re are pleased to see Senator Schumer accept the deal that President Trump put on the table from the beginning.” However, the shocking ad received a significant level of criticism over the last three days, and ABC’s Jon Karl asked Sanders how that ad is conducive to negotiations with Democrats to end the shutdown.
“How is he going to show leadership on this?” Karl asked. The press secretary responded that the ad didn’t come from the White House, and Trump remains focused on national security.
The ad was a recurring topic throughout the briefing, and Sanders was later asked it was created with Trump’s approval, and whether it accurately reflects his view that Democrats are responsible for murders caused by illegal immigrants.
Sanders responded by hammering Democrats for being unwilling to discuss tough immigration reform, saying it would “certainly allow future incidents to take place.”
