Sarah Sanders on Trump Saying He Could Pardon Himself: Doesn’t Need to, ‘Hasn’t Done Anything Wrong’
Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders threw out a totally-canned answer today when pressed on President Trump‘s declaration that he has the “absolute right” to pardon himself.
When the president attacked Robert Mueller‘s investigation for the kabillionth time earlier today, he raved about the “UNCONSTITUTIONAL” probe and floated with the possibility of giving himself a pardon. This comes after Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani said the president has the power to pardon himself, and couldn’t be indicted even if he shot former FBI director James Comey.
ABC’s Jon Karl asked Sanders to explain this on Monday, and she responded by mostly gliding over the questions.
“Thankfully the president hasn’t done anything wrong and wouldn’t have any need for a pardon,” Sanders said. “Thankfully the president hasn’t done anything wrong and wouldn’t need [a pardon].”
The topic came up several times throughout today’s briefing, during which Sanders was repeatedly asked if Trump is above the law.
