Sarah Sanders on Trump’s Defense of Kim Jong Un’s Human Rights Abuses: ‘That’s a Factual Statement’
The White House press corps had a couple of questions about President Donald Trump‘s comments that appeared to defend North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
In an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier yesterday, Trump said that a lot of other people have done really bad things when reminded that Kim has done, well, some really bad things, like being a killer.
“Certainly that’s a factual statement,” Sarah Sanders told incredulous reporters. “A lot of people have done some bad things. However, the president has not ignored the bad things that have been done by the North Korean regime.”
She continued on: “The president has raised North Korea’s human rights record and the oppression of the regime. He raised them at the summit that took place earlier this week. But the focus of the summit was denuclearization and peace on the peninsula.”
During the same press conference, Sanders also refused to condemn the Trump administrations separation of young children at the border, noting that kids are being taken away from parents “because it’s the law.”
I mean, come on. Haven’t we all done some really bad things in our time? Let he who is without brutal, despotic tendencies like starving and torturing his people cast the first stone.
