Sarah Sanders Refuses to Weigh In On Whether Trump Wants Sheriff Israel to Resign
Back from her trip to the Winter Olympics in South Korea, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was pressed right away during today’s press briefing on what exactly President Donald Trump’s stance is on Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel.
Unfortunately, we didn’t get much of an answer from her.
Asked if Trump believes Israel should step down amid criticism over how his office ignored the warning signs surrounding the Parkland shooter beforehand, she repeatedly noted that the issue should be left up to the local community.
“Those are decisions that should be left up to the local communities and the local officials and not the president,” she stated.
Sanders was presented with the statement made by the lawyer of former Broward County Sheriff’s deputy Scot Peterson, who the president has called a “coward” for not immediately going into the school building during the shooting. While the lawyer has stated Peterson feels his actions were appropriate, Sanders said the president “has been very clear in his public comments on how he feels about the situation specifically.”
