Sarah Huckabee Sanders gave an interview to Savannah Guthrie on NBC’s Today show, and she faced a barrage of questions about what Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe’s ouster means for the ongoing investigations into Russia’s election interference.
The press secretary took many questions on this subject during her press briefing yesterday, but on Tuesday, Guthrie noted that McCabe is taking his leave after President Trump slammed him repeatedly for months, just like he did to AG Jeff Sessions and Former FBI Director James Comey. Since it was recently revealed that Trump seriously considered getting rid of Robert Mueller, Guthrie wanted to know: “why does he go after all of the Justice Department officials connected to the Russia investigation?”
Sanders insisted that the Trump Administration has been cooperative with the special counsel, but Guthrie doubled down and asked whether Trump’s actions make it look like he’s hiding something. From there, Sanders vented about how the American people are sick of “Russia fever” and only care about how Trump will move the country forward.
Guthrie pressed Sanders over whether Trump brought Mueller’s special counsel and obstruction of justice investigations upon himself through his own actions.
