Scarborough Ravages Trump: Saudis ‘Made Such a Fool of Him; Played Him Like a Dolt’

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough tore into President Trump on Wednesday for “playing dumb” with Saudi Arabia as the rest of the world demands answers about the fate of Jamal Khashoggi.

The comments came during a Morning Joe discussion about the news that the U.S. has picked up intelligence that the Saudis planned on capturing Khashoggi before the journalist’s recent disappearance in Istanbul. Scarborough took the lead and said Saudi Arabia was playing Trump for a “fool,” but the president’s attitude about all of this is not surprising since he applauds authoritarian leaders who kill journalists and political dissidents.

“Saudi Arabia, led by [Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman] is lying to America and the world. We need answers, and just because Donald Trump is playing dumb, MBS doesn’t mean we’re going to play dumb. it doesn’t mean the American media is going to play dumb. it doesn’t mean the Washington Post, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal are going to sit back and play dumb. we’re going to get answers… They made such a fool of him. They played him like a dolt.”

Trump expressed some concern about Khashoggi earlier this week after his administration was criticized for not commenting on the journalist’s alleged murder. Despite the intel reports on Khashoggi’s capture, however, Trump simply responded to the development by saying “hopefully that will sort itself out. Right now, nobody knows anything about it, but there’s some pretty bad stories going around.”
