On Morning Joe Tuesday morning, host Joe Scarborough cautioned the GOP against relying too much on old Clinton scandals in its campaign against presumptive frontrunner Hillary Clinton, arguing that the scandals didn’t even serve Republicans that well the first time around, back when Scarborough was in Congress.
“Does anybody think Americans want to go back and relitigate this?” Scarborough asked. “Trust me, I was there the first time we litigated this and Americans didn’t want to hear it then. This is sheer insanity.”
This morning’s bout of Clinton-itis comes courtesy of some papers from old Clinton friend Diane Blair that contain new details about the Clinton’s history, including the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Fellow MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell said that the papers were heavily edited and taken out of context.
“If this is the opposition research that Republicans are going to have,” Scarborough said. “I’m just saying — how do you get people back to work, right? I would much rather fight about the Affordable Care Act and debate that and talk about why that’s bad for business and talk about why, you know, we need to build the Keystone Pipeline. Republicans need to focus. Let’s have fights on issues. This stuff is going to get eyes rolling awfully fast.”
