Scarborough: Was Goodell Protecting NFL Owners Who May Have Something to Hide?

Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough and regular panelist Donny Deutsch wondered Tuesday morning if perhaps NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell had avoided a harsher punishment for former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice due to pressure from the owners who may have their own skeletons.

“What I don’t understand from a PR point of view, from a humane point of view, from a common sense point of view: what is the downside of coming down hard on this issue, before any of the tapes came out?” Deutsch wondered. “What did Goodell have to gain from saying I’m not banning him for a year?”

“Maybe there are problems with the owners,” Scarborough speculated. “Maybe the owners have their own checkered background. He works for the owners. Maybe he doesn’t want to offend the owners, who maybe have their own sexual harassment charges against them?”
