According to Page Six, CBS Evening News anchor Scott Pelley is out. Per the report, Pelley is being moved permanently over to the network’s newsmagazine 60 Minutes.
As of now, no replacement has been named for Pelley. Per Page Six’s sources, Pelley’s office was being cleared out while he was out on assignment.
Pelley hasn’t hosted CBS Evening News for several days now. In his absence, CBS News Senior National Correspondent Anthony Mason has filled in. According to CNN Money, Pelley will anchor the program for “an indefinite amount of time” and then Mason will likely take over after that until the network decides on a permanent replacement.
Another of the publication’s sources noted that one could see this move being done due to Pelley’s low ratings, Pelley has also had friction with CBS News president David Rhodes.
Page Six reported back in December that Pelley was rumored to be on his way out.
UPDATE 1:10 PM ET 5/31/2017: CBS News made it official today and announced that Pelley will indeed be moving to 60 Minutes on a full-time basis and Mason will serve as the fill-in anchor on CBS Evening News.
