Sean Spicer: Democrats Are Engaging in Partisan ‘Delay Tactics’ Over Confirmations

During his big morning press conference today, incoming White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer criticized Democrats for “the partisanship that’s being exhibited” in the confirmation process.

With hearings continuing today for President-elect Donald Trump‘s Cabinet picks, Spicer said that Democrats are engaging in “delay tactic after delay tactic,” which he believes “calls into question their desire to have a government of continuity.”

Democrats and liberal activists have fought against some of Trump’s nominees, including Betsy DeVos and Jeff Sessions, and have been calling for them to be rejected. Republicans want a whole slate of nominees confirmed on day one, but Democrats may seek to delay some of them.

“It’s not about substance,” Spicer said of the questions being asked, “it’s not about policy, it’s not about the issues in front of that department. It’s about… partisan attacks and ethical questions.”
