Former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer defended Sarah Huckabee Sanders from Trump critics who have taken to mocking his successor’s appearance.
During an appearance on Fox & Friends, Spicer was asked about that widely-condemned Los Angeles Times editorial which referred to Sanders as a “slightly chunky soccer mom.” Spicer responded by condemning the double standard for Republicans and press figures who launch personal attacks against each other.
“When it’s another member of the establishment media, a quote, pulitzer prize winning, well-established journalist, makes disgusting kind of comments about somebody’s appearance, there is a deafening silence from some of the network anchors so easily appalled at some of the other comments,” Spicer said. “It’s interesting to me the one sided faux outrage that they have.”
Shortly afterwards, Spicer reflected on his personal experience with Saturday Night Live when he was asked if Sanders could be damaged now that she’s being lampooned by the show.
Spicer was doubtful, saying “people understand the angle that the mainstream media is coming at this from. They are going to do everything they can to undermine the conservative movement, Republicans and this administration.”
