Sen. Angus King Bashes Trump Over Ford Mockery: ‘Dividing Us Into Tribes’ of Men Against Women
On Wednesday, Senator Angus King (I-ME) accused Donald Trump of fanning the flames of political tribalism by attacking Christine Ford over her sexual misconduct claims.
The president has drawn disapproval for how he ridiculed Ford’s allegations against Brett Kavanaugh to raucous applause at a rally last night. King spoke to CNN’s Alisyn Camerota about this today, saying “it made me feel sort of sick” to watch Trump “turn [Ford’s] powerful testimony into a political rally punch line.”
“I don’t know what to say,” King said. “I think Jeff Flake [calling it] ‘appalling’ is an appropriate adjective.”
King continued by defending Ford’s testimony from her senate appearance last week, and also bashing Trump for mischaracterizing and dismissing her claims.
“To mock her last night like the President did, he’s dividing us into tribes and last night was the most basic tribe of all: men and women,” King said. “He’s trying to set us against each other. Let’s try to get to the bottom of the facts, but what he did last night doesn’t contribute to that pursuit at all.”
