Sen. Schumer: If The GOP Make Election About Health Care, They Will Lose
Earlier today on CBS’s Face The Nation, House Speaker John Boehner told Norah O’Donnell that the Republicans will be doing everything they can to repeal the entirety of the Affordable Care Act. Following that interview, Senator Chuck Schumer appeared on the show and told O’Donnell that “if Republicans make as their number one issue the repeal of health care, they’re certainly going to lose the election in the House and the Senate and the presidency.”
Schumer argued that most Americans are not in favor of repealing the law, though according to a recent USA Today/Gallup poll, it’s only a very slim majority that think so. Schumer said that there are provisions of the bill that are very popular, even among Republicans.
However, even considering the GOP’s general opposition to the health care bill, Schumer noted that Romney’s in a bit of a “pickle” because of the incredibly striking similarities between Obamacare and Romneycare. He concluded by noting a stark contrast between the Democrats and Republicans, in that when Congress reconvenes later this month, the Republicans will take a vote to repeal the health care law, while the Democrats will be putting forth a “small business jobs tax cut.”
