Sen. Manchin’s Shocking Analogy: Obama Climate Speech Like Shooting Feet Then ‘Trying To Run The Marathon’

One prominent Democratic senator isn’t happy with President Obama‘s new climate change proposal. West Virginia senator Joe Manchin appeared on Fox News shortly after Obama’s announcement and told Bret Baier that the president’s proposals sound “irresponsible” and made the unfortunate comparison to running a marathon after attempting to seriously cripple yourself, months after the bombing at the Boston marathon.

Manchin acknowledged the importance of an energy policy that makes the U.S. less dependent on foreign sources of energy, “but we have to use everything we have.” He mocked people who believe the United States should stop burning coal, saying “they believe the world’s still flat.”

He added that Obama’s proposal will be a “killer of jobs” and dropped this doozy.

“Why do you want to shoot yourself in both feet and then try to run the marathon tomorrow?”

In his speech today, the president called for more rules for coal-fired plants and laid out the conditions by which he would support the controversial Keystone XL pipeline.
