Rising GOP star Sen. Marco Rubio ruled out being the 2012 Republican Vice Presidential nominee on Wednesday. “I am not going to be the Vice Presidential nominee,” Rubio said, repeating it for emphasis. “I am not going to be the Vice Presidential nominee.”
Rubio’s made his Shermanesque statement regarding the VP slot during the Washington Ideas Forum at the Newseum. “I don’t crave it,” Rubio added. “I wanted to be a United States senator. I didn’t run for the Senate as an opportunity to have a launching pad for some other job. One of things that I lament is people somehow come to the conclusion that United States senator is not enough.”
The Florida Senator was asked a follow-up question about whether he would turn down the position if he was offered it.
“The answer’s probably going to be no,” Rubio maintained, later clarifying. “The answer’s going to be no.”
