Late on Wednesday night, Seth Meyers used a bit of “sign language” that almost everyone is familiar with.
Not once, but twice.
Meyers cited a report that during Secretary of State Rex Tillerson‘s trip to New Zealand, people were giving his motorcade the middle finger in response to President Trump withdrawing the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement.
“To be hated by New Zealand?” Meyers asked. “Trump hasn’t just lost Earth, he lost Middle Earth.”
He added, “Even Frodo’s like, ‘Here’s one finger to rule them all.'” Meyers then demonstrated what finger he was referring to.
Meyers moved on to former FBI Director James Comey‘s written testimony that was released a day prior to his hearing. He then showed numerous news clips, including one from CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin who stated that “if that isn’t obstruction of justice, I don’t know what is.”
Meyers reacted, “Well Mr. President, as they say in New Zealand…” and proceeded to flip the bird again.
It’s worth noting that, because of the late night broadcast time, neither instances were censored.
