Seth Meyers Kicks Off Late Night Thanking Fallon, Weekend Update-Style Monologue
Seth Meyers kicked off his inaugural Late Night Monday stealing Jimmy Fallon‘s signature Thank You Notes to thank Fallon for handing over the show to him as he moves on up to The Tonight Show, promising to “use it to do completely original comedy pieces… starting now.”
Meyers didn’t stand on ceremony that long, jumping right into the opening monologue with Olympics jokes. He said, “The Olympics are over, so for the next four years, if you go skiing with a rifle on your back, you’re just a crazy person.” He cracked wise about Rob Ford, Arizona, and guns in a monologue that felt a lot like Meyers back in the SNL Weekend Update desk.
Meyers then introduced the audience to the 8G band and bandleader Fred Armisen, and they had some fun banter together, before Meyers thanked Fallon, Armisen, and his whole family for supporting him as he’s moved into the late night landscape.
