Seth Meyers Rips Trump Supporters Backing Up False Claims: ‘It Is Wildly Irresponsible…’
As the president-elect continues to insist that he actually won America’s popular vote, studies suggest that illegal voting had no substantial impact on the 2016 election. Even so, Meyers noted that that “has not stopped [Trump] from peddling conspiracy theories that have no basis in reality,” and his fans are backing him up whenever the media call him out for it.
“It is not possible that millions of people voted illegally and nobody notice, and it is wildly irresponsible to claim that it is possible! Stop saying everything is possible…”
Meyers said that the greatest danger here was that Trump supporters are accepting false claims and narratives as true. Though Meyers didn’t mention this in his segment, a realization of this phenomenon occurred this weekend after a gunman created panic in a D.C. pizza parlor when he decided to investigate an anti-Hillary Clinton conspiracy theory.
“At the heart of the Trump team’s defense of these false conspiracy theories is the cynical notion that truth doesn’t matter at all,” Meyers concluded. “That people can choose to believe whatever reality they want to believe.”
