After breaking down Governor Mike Pence’s “terrible job” defending his state’s “religious freedom” law last week, Seth Meyers decided to update his audience last night on the state of the debate in Indiana. Specifically, he took on the saga of Memories Pizza.
As Meyers pointed out, after the pizzeria owner said they would refuse to cater same-sex weddings, people started bombarding the restaurant’s Yelp page with negative reviews, including from one person who said they wanted to “burn the place to the ground.”
“In other words, people stood up for tolerance by threatening violence against someone who didn’t share their views: the opposite of tolerance,” Meyers said. “So, and I don’t mean this in a gay way, there were dicks on both sides.”
Meyers also had some harsh words for TheBlaze.com, the conservative website that he assumed was a “drag queen supply store,” which spearheaded the crowdfunding campaign for Memories, raising over $842,000.
“Seriously, this is the kind of cause people will donate to?” he asked. “You can save rescue dogs, save the rainforest, save the whales, you decide to save the pizza? Or you anti-gay or just stoned?”
