Sharpton Mocks O’Reilly’s MLK Correction: ‘Really? People Watch The Factor for Accuracy?’

Al Sharpton did not let up today in Round 2 of his mockery of Bill O’Reilly over his coverage of the March on Washington 50th anniversary events this week, as well as the Republicans who declined to appear due to previous engagements. O’Reilly apologized for incorrectly assuming they weren’t invited, saying his viewers care about the facts. This statement utterly bewildered Sharpton.

Sharpton asked, “Really?! People watch The Factor for accuracy? Sounds like another false statement that needs to be corrected.”

He continued calling out Republicans who were “too busy with oil lobbyists, donors, and business roundtables” to attend the events. Victoria DeFrancesco Soto told Sharpton Republicans have slipped into this habit of refusing to engage with Obama because they know their base would “punish them.”

Soto echoed similar sentiments expressed by MSNBC’s Touré and Goldie Taylor, who surmised Republicans didn’t attend because their constituents and backers would not have allowed it.
