Sharpton Reacts to Confrontation with Fox Reporter, Scolds Media over Baltimore

Earlier today in Baltimore, Fox News reporter Leland Vittert confronted Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and Al Sharpton. Sharpton got a bit testy with Vittert and told him to back off, and then there was some pushing. It wasn’t clear whether it was Sharpton (as we reported earlier) or someone else in the crowd who pushed Vittert.

Vittert told his colleague Neil Cavuto that it’s unclear whether the reverend pushed him; but in a brief phone interview, Vittert told Mediaite he believes it was the mayor’s security detail.

Right before Vittert spoke with Cavuto, though, Cavuto played a clip of Sharpton mocking the confrontation, saying Vittert “started falling back like somebody pushed him.” Sharpton mockingly said, “He’ll be on tonight, like, we hit him or something. I’ll tell you right now, just watch the circus tonight.”

But Sharpton also got serious, scolding the media for trying to “incite a reaction and cover the reaction.” He cried, “Quit playing with matches in Baltimore!”
