Shep Smith: ‘Embarrassing’ for CNN to Treat Our Navy SEAL Story as Breaking News

Ahead of Fox News’ exclusive interview last night with Rob O’Neill, the Navy SEAL who claims to have shot Osama bin Laden, Shepard Smith spoke to reporter Peter Doocy about landing the big-time scoop. But Smith also used the opportunity to take some shots at “hater channels” like CNN that he accused of piggybacking on Fox’s story.

“Once we announced we’re doing this, of course everybody and their mother jumped on this. CNN’s treating things over there as breaking news. It’s really kind of embarrassing for them, I thought,” Smith said on his Fox show yesterday, before moving back to the more serious issues at hand.

Later in the segment, he brought up Fox’s competitors again, saying, “Others have had input on this, because I have seen them on the hater channels. People over on the hate channels are like, ‘he should never have done this,'” referring to the Navy SEAL’s decision to reveal his identity.

Of course, Smith may have a point. When CNN did cover criticism from O’Neill’s fellow SEALs, the network referred to him as the “SEAL who claims he killed Obama.”
