Shep Smith: GOP Touting Memo ‘Seems to Be a Classic Weapon of Mass Distraction’
Fox News’ Shep Smith twice referred to the much-talked-about Nunes memo as a “weapon of mass distraction” being utilized by Republicans on Capitol Hill.
Smith today recapped all the news surrounding the memo and how some Republicans think it could be pretty damning to the Mueller probe. The DOJ has said releasing the memo would be “extraordinarily reckless.”
He reminded viewers of how Nunes last year “made White House surveillance claims, staged a rush to the White House to purportedly share surveillance information with the administration, but actually took information from the administration and staged a report of it. At its core, it was PR and it was bogus.”
“A memo can be a weapon of partisan mass distraction,” he continued, “especially at a pivotal moment in American history, when it behooves the man in charge for supporters to believe the institutions can’t be trusted, investigators are corrupt, and the news media are liars. Context matters.”
And as he spoke with RealClearPolitics publisher Tom Bevan, Smith reiterated that “weapon of mass distraction” point as he talked about the ongoing political back-and-forth and how people keep asking to actually see the memo.
