Shep Smith to GOP Strategist: Didn’t Trump Rise Because You Made Empty Promises to Base?
Shep Smith today asked a Republican strategist, somewhat agitatedly, how they could be so surprised by the rise of Donald Trump after the party made so many empty promises just to keep the base happy.
Doug Heye said he still holds out hope that the GOP will reject Trump, but Smith pointed out that it sounds like many Republicans are ready to fight a two-front war against Trump and Hillary Clinton, which would be supremely difficult.
Smith proceeded to ask him about “how much regret is there going to be” that throughout President Obama‘s term in office, the GOP “pretended they could do things they knew they couldn’t to keep their base organized and active.”
He specifically mentioned Obamacare, which Heye pointed out the GOP voted to repeal dozens and dozens of times.
Smith still said it was never gonna happen in the first place, and the anger has festered so long it’s birthed a possible Trump nomination.
