Shep Smith: White House Is ‘Giving the Appearance’ of a Cover-Up When It Comes to Flynn
Earlier today, the House Oversight Committee’s leaders stated that former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn may have violated federal law over payments he received from Russia and Turkey. It’s also been reported that the White House had blocked a request to provide documents related to Flynn, leading to reporters absolutely grilling White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer on the subject at today’s press briefing.
Following the White House press briefing, Fox News anchor Shepard Smith weighed in on the story while speaking with White House correspondent John Roberts, noting that the administration’s actions don’t reflect favorably on them.
“At the core of all of this is — the Russians interfered with our election,” Smith explained. “General Flynn received money through an entity that was from the Russians. And what they want to know is, ‘Was there collusion?'”
The Fox News anchor continued, “The White House at least is giving the appearance, according to these Congress leaders, of a lack of cooperation, which could give an overall appearance that they’re trying to cover something up. Why not quit with all the semantic juggling and stuff and get to the bottom of this as quickly as possible?”
The ex-National Security Advisor, who left his position in February amid controversy over his pre-inauguration conversations with the Russians, has reportedly offered his testimony in the Russia investigations in exchange for immunity. (An offer that has been rebuffed by at least one committee.)
Last month Smith said there’s been “a lot of lying” from the White House over Flynn.
