Earlier this month, U.S. officials anonymously told BuzzFeed about their Edward Snowden death fantasies and they got just a little graphic. In a new interview with German TV, Snowden spoke out about these anonymous threats, explaining how these people would love to shoot or poison him and “have me die in the shower.”
Snowden’s goal, as he expressed in another interview last month, was to give the public a say in what’s being done in their name, and on that score, he said he’s felt encouraged by how marginally more honest and forthcoming President Obama and others have been about abuse and the need for some minor reforms in the NSA.
Snowden was amazed that despite how the president appeared to stack the deck in his privacy oversight and review board, they still had some very damning words for NSA programs that they believed were just plain ineffective. He also said in the interview that the crimes he has been charged with would not allow him to make his case publicly and openly, as people like Obama have suggested he could.
