Spicer Stands by Claim in Kurtz Book That NYT Reporter Yelled at Staffer About ‘Racist’ Trump

Sean Spicer appeared with Fox News’ Howard Kurtz this morning to, in part, bolster one of the reports in Kurtz’s book.

You may have heard in the past few weeks that Kurtz’s book claims New York Times reporter Jonathan Martin yelled at an RNC staffer during the election about Donald Trump being “a racist and a fascist.”

Kurtz’s book says Spicer subsequently called the Times to complain, and he told Kurtz today that he did indeed do that.

He told Kurtz that the staffer did say that’s what Martin told them and “they were very concerned about that accusation.”

After calling the Times, Spicer claims Martin called him back and “didn’t find it acceptable that I’d gone to his editor to express my concerns.”

When the excerpt from Kurtz’s book first came out, Martin rather strongly denied he ever made that comment, and some of his Times colleagues backed him up on that.
