Spicer Tells CNN’s Dana Bash He Wanted to Give White House a ‘Clean Slate’

The political world was rocked today by the news that White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer had resigned. His decision was reportedly in protest of the White House hiring Wall Street financier Anthony Scaramucci as the new communications director, with Spicer telling President Donald Trump that he felt the “appointment was a major mistake.”

As the media world waited for a rare on-camera White House press briefing where the situation was sure to be addressed, Spicer provided a comment to CNN’s Dana Bash on why he decided to call it quits now.

“The answer to the question ‘Why now?’ that he gave to me is, he wanted to give the president and the new team a clean slate,” Bash noted.

She further reported that even though the president wanted Spicer to stay on, the outgoing press secretary told her “he didn’t want to stand in the way from letting this happen, from letting changes happen, and that he felt in the moment that the time was right.”

Bash also noted that Spicer did not sound upset during her call with him.
