Stephanopoulos Challenges Panelist: ‘How Much Do You Believe What You Just Said?’
This Week regular panelist Donna Brazile sounded bullish Sunday morning on Democrats’ hopes of maintaining control of the Senate after the 2014 midterms, a claim that caused host George Stephanopoulos to wonder if she were blowing smoke.
“This is a ripple election, this is not a tidal wave,” Brazile said, arguing that the GOP had failed to knock out Democratic incumbents early on, as they’d promised to, and failed to expand the map into Democratic strongholds like Oregon. “Hold your seats, I think Democrats will retain control.”
“How much do you believe what you just said?” Stephanopoulos asked.
“You know, we in Washington D.C., we get into the bubble,” Brazile said. “But the truth is, I was there in 1998. I understand the six-year-itch. This is not paralysis. This is just making sure we can mobilize Democrat voters. If we get them out, we win the Senate.”
Bill Kristol then unspooled his patented spin and nobody said a word.
