Stephanopoulos to O’Malley: Did Your Baltimore Leadership Sow Seeds of Police Distrust?

stephanopo'malleyFormer Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley is running for president and touting both his experience as governor and as mayor of Baltimore. But the recent unrest in Baltimore has put O’Malley on the defensive about whether his reign was successful.

This Week anchor George Stephanopoulos pressed O’Malley on the matter today, bringing up criticisms that his mayorship “sowed the seeds of distrust between the police and the community.”

O’Malley defended the “substantial progress” he made while he was mayor and the widespread support he enjoyed, while acknowledging there are still “pockets of poverty” and anger that need to be better addressed.

O’Malley’s kickoff rally yesterday was interrupted by “black lives matter” protesters, and recently, a former Baltimore cop said that O’Malley returning to Baltimore might set off riots.
