Stephen Colbert and John Oliver Insult Each Other’s Presidential Wax Figures

In a segment that ran Friday night, Stephen Colbert and John Oliver settled some unfinished business over their wax Presidents.

Back in January, The Hall of Presidents and First Ladies in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, closed its doors, but before doing so auctioned off its wax figures, which drew big names like Colbert, Oliver, their pal Jon Stewart, as well as Rachel Maddow.

The Late Show host walked away with President Zachary Taylor.

Meanwhile, The Last Week Tonight host walked away with Presidents Richard Nixon, Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, William Henry Harrison, and Warren G. Harding. He even had a little fun with Harding’s statue by making a trailer for a fake biopic starring Laura Linney, Anna Kendrick, and the wax statue itself.

So on Colbert’s show, they discussed the auction and their figures, but Colbert took offense at Oliver’s remarks on his show mocking Taylor for dying of a stomach bug 16 months into office and demanded the HBO host to apologize to his statue.

This led to an insult battle between Colbert and Oliver, who were both accompanied by their wax Presidents.

“Known philanderer Warren G. Harding also died in office of a ‘heart condition.'” Colbert said. “Really? I didn’t realize your heart can get syphilis!”

“No one even knows who your guy is!” Oliver shot back. “90% of Americans think Zachary Taylor was one of the kids on Home Improvement!”

Fortunately, Colbert and Oliver buried the hatchet and had their wax figures kiss and make up.
