Stephen Colbert Rips Trump For Flynn Tweet: ‘Witness-Tampering in Real Time’
Donald Trump‘s tweet wishing Michael Flynn “Good luck” at his sentencing Tuesday was among Stephen Colbert‘s targets during his Late Show with Stephen Colbert monologue Tuesday night, as the host took dead aim at Trump for “witness-tampering in real time.”
Colbert opened the monologue by reading Trump’s tweet — which read “Good luck today in court to General Michael Flynn. Will be interesting to see what he has to say, despite tremendous pressure being put on him, about Russian Collusion in our great and, obviously, highly successful political campaign. There was no Collusion!” — in Trump’s voice.
“I’m pretty sure that’s just witness tampering in real time,” Colbert said, then translated the subtext of the tweet.
“Good luck to Michael Flynn on keeping his trap shut. Your son and I will be watching your testimony, and then we’re going to feed my alligators. They normally eat rats and rat children,” Colbert said, again in Trump’s voice.
He then moved on to a brutal dissection of the stunning developments at Flynn’s sentencing today, which ended with Flynn requesting, and being granted, a delay in his sentencing until at least March of 2019.
