Stephen Colbert Throws His Hat in the Ring to Be Trump’s New Chief of Staff
It’s a new week for the The Late Show, so Stephen Colbert started things off by taking on John Kelly‘s imminent departure from Donald Trump‘s administration.
As Colbert remarked on the reported long-existing tension between Trump and Kelly, he quipped that the latter is suddenly a lot more available to host the Oscar awards soon. This led to Colbert cracking several jokes about Trump’s difficulties in finding someone willing to take Kelly’s place as White House Chief of Staff.
Recognizing Trump’s desperation and the lack of viable candidates, Colbert announced that he would officially throw himself in the running to be Kelly’s successor.
“Mr. President, I, Stephen Colbert, am your next White House Chief of Staff. Will I be able to control the president? No. Will we fight? Yeah! But I will bring a steady hand to a tumultuous West Wing? Also no. But no one could! Who cares? And, no, I don’t agree with the president’s policies, and, no, this won’t help the country, but I believe in my heart of hearts that this could be fun, for me.”
