Steve Bannon Defends Trump’s Twitter Use By Mocking ‘Pearl-Clutching’ Media Reactions
Steve Bannon praised Donald Trump on 60 Minutes for how he uses Twitter to bypass the political press.
As Bannon spoke about how “presidential” Trump is, he ended up talking about the mogul’s “extraordinary” use of social media. When Charlie Rose noted how Trump’s tweets have been a source of controversy for himself, Bannon argued that that’s because Trump says things that the “pearl-clutching mainstream media” won’t deem correct.
As the two continued to discuss, Rose said the question wasn’t about the appropriateness of Trump’s Twitter use, but whether it has actually served the president’s interests. Bannon dismissed this as a standard of judgment the media is trying to impose on Trump in order to attack his presidency.
“I don’t think he needs the Washington Post, and The New York Times, and CBS News, and I don’t believe he thinks that they’re looking out what’s in his best interest, okay? He’s not going to believe that, I don’t believe that, and you don’t believe that, okay? This is another just standard in judgment that you rain upon him in the effort to destroy Donald Trump. He knows he’s speaking directly to the people who put him in office, when he uses Twitter. And it sometimes is not in the custom and tradition of what the opposition party deems is appropriate, you’re absolutely correct, it’s not. And he’s not going to stop.”
Bannon also says John Kelly will not be able to stop Trump from tweeting what he will
