Steve Schmidt Rips Bannon Over ‘Appalling’ Legacy: Made Common Cause With ‘Odious Elements’

On MSNBC this afternoon, Steve Schmidt went on a tear against Steve Bannon and his “appalling” legacy on the news of his stepping down from Breitbart News.

He told Nicolle Wallace that Bannon “made common cause with some of the most odious elements in American life” and has “done real damage to the social and political fabric of the country.”

Schmidt and Wallace pointed to his involvement in President Trump‘s Charlottesville reaction, with Schmidt saying Bannon “mainstreamed nationalism, white nationalism, neo-Nazism.”

Wallace asked him who he thinks is more responsible for “killing the Republican party”: Bannon or Trump. Schmidt said they both are.

Back in December, Schmidt trashed Bannon as a “nihilist” and a “pernicious force in American politics.”
