Stewart Takes On @NatSecWonk: Don’t Fire Only WH Staffer Who Knows How Internet Works!
The first segment of Thursday night’s Daily Show was all about the U.S. government’s ability to spy on world leaders, but in the second, Stewart showed how it took the White House months to track down and fire a staffer who tweeted anonymous attacks on the Obama administration.
Stewart thought Jofi Joseph must have done something truly horrendous to get fired, but upon realizing it was just a Twitter page, he called this whole scandal “less Deep Throat, more Gossip Girl.”
Stewart marveled at how the White House is “surveilling everyone’s every move,” but it took them months to track down some guy tweeting during his bathroom breaks.
But Stewart thought firing him went a bit too far, because this means “someone at the White House knows how to use the internet and give people what they want.” Next best idea: have him run healthcare.gov.
